A Serious Acne Prevention Regimen

Let’s face it, whether we like it or not, people will judge us partly on our appearance. Our skin plays a big role in that appearance too because our complexion is one of the first things noticed by others. Plus, in today’s world piling on lots of makeup is out, and the barely made-up look is in, so there’s even more of a premium placed on healthy, beautiful skin. That’s why so many people are concerned with acne prevention.

Acne is a nuisance and a bane to anyone who longs for clear skin. Teenagers are more prone to suffer acne breakouts than any other age group, but adult acne remains a bothersome skin condition too. So whether you’re in your teens or in your thirties, read this article for some no-nonsense acne prevention tips.

 Start from the inside

Understanding your diet and stress levels is important to understanding how to prevent acne. That’s because each plays a part in determining the status of your skin. Nutrients such as vitamins and minerals are needed by the body to counteract the toxins that we produce every day.  Proteins too are needed as they are the building blocks of the body and work to repair and rejuvenate cells.

Your stress levels too can influence how your skin looks. When your body experiences stress, it releases hormones that can trigger excess oil production. The more oil production, the harder it is for your skin to stay clean and clear – and the harder it is to prevent acne.

Load up on the healthy stuff

While there is no specific acne prevention diet, eating correctly helps your skin be at its best. Taking a vitamin supplement daily is a “must have” to ensure that you get all the nutrients you need. Making sure to take one that includes chromium and zinc, which are effective in hastening the skin’s healing processes, is a plus. Vitamins A, C and E are also particularly beneficial in maintaining the skin’s optimum health. And don’t forget water. Most people need to drink somewhere in the neighborhood of eight glasses of water a day to keep the skin hydrated and to flush out the body’s toxins.

Stay away from oil-based products

Everything that you use on your face from cleansers to make-up should be water-based. Oil-based products tend to clog pores, giving rise to more blackheads and pimples. Even oily skin can benefit from a water-based moisturizer every once in a while. So make sure not to use oil-based products in your daily acne care regimen.

Keep your face clean

Never go to bed with makeup on. During sleep, pores tend to open allowing makeup and dirt to dig deeper into the skin, leading to new clogs and new acne eruptions. Remember, it’s during sleep that the skin repairs itself, so give it a chance to breathe and recover. Getting a good-night’s sleep with a clean face is actually a very effective acne prevention treatment.

As far as general makeup usage is concerned, try to minimize wearing it as much as you can – especially during those times when your acne seems worse. While it’s tempting to hide blemishes under thick layers of foundation and concealer, try to resist the urge. It will simply worsen your inflammation and delay healing.

Show your face some TLC

Once a week, slather some honey on your face and leave it on for fifteen minutes before washing it off. Honey has some soothing and moisturizing properties. This makes it quite effective in nourishing your skin.

As much as possible, avoid touching your face because bacteria from your hands gets transferred to your face whenever you do. If your hair is in a style that constantly rubs or brushes against your face, consider cutting it or styling it differently to avoid irritating your skin further.

Don’t fix what isn’t broken

If you’re lucky enough to have gorgeous skin already, keep it that way by not using any unnecessary products on your face. A lot of teenage girls make this mistake, only to regret it deeply afterwards. Stop raiding your mom’s dresser for creams that you don’t really need.

Natural acne prevention is achievable and you can get clear and blemish-free skin without expensive dermatologist fees. There are ways to prevent acne; it just takes some effort and discipline on your part. Don’t give up.
