Acne Vulgaris Causes

Acne vulgaris (also known as common acne) is a skin disease characterized by eruptions of whiteheads, blackheads, or cysts. While not typically health threatening acne vulgaris can nevertheless leave the skin scarred for years or a lifetime. And it certainly has lasting psychological effects.

Clearing your acne is probably a priority for you. The main reason of course is that it no doubt causes you to be extremely self conscious about your appearance. But if you’ve tried over-the-counter acne treatments and haven’t been successful at beating your acne down, it’s time for you to investigate the underlying causes of your acne.

Acne is Infectious
Bacteria in the pores (Propionibacterium acnes) is one of the key instigators of any acne breakout. To fight it, antibiotics are often prescribed. This is actually getting to be a quite common course of action by dermatologists. Sometimes these treatments work wonderfully well but of course the side effects of antibiotic use include the suppression of the immune system which can make you more susceptible to common colds, flu, or other illnesses. Take care if you use antibiotics

Hormonal Imbalances
Another common reason for breakouts is hormonal imbalance. This is why acne is very common during the teenage years. However, just because it is common during these years does not mean it will magically go away once the person is through puberty or once the person turns twenty years old. Sometimes acne can last a lifetime.

Diet Issues
The jury is still out on whether or not anything you eat can truly cause acne. Theories about individual foods causing acne abound. But causal links between acne and foods such as chocolate and peanut butter, have been disproven. However, it is widely accepted that eating a healthy, well-balanced diet can give you healthier skin and thereby give you a better chance to control your acne.

Untreated Acne
If you have tried several acne vugaris treatments with no positive results, then it is likely that your acne is becoming increasingly severe. The worse it gets, the more difficult it is to treat. In that case, you may need to go to your doctor to find out exactly how to get rid of bad acne.

If you suffer from only minor breakouts here and there, you may be able to work with simple drug store acne remedies. These are simple treatments but they can show you how to get rid of pimples quickly. Just remember these are not really meant for severe acne vulgaris and are not long-term solutions.
