How to Get Rid of Skin Tags

If you have a skin tag, or if you know anyone who has one, then you know that they can be quite unsightly. What are skin tags? Well, skin tags are small benign tumors that are about the size of a grain of rice. They tend to appear on the body in areas where the skin has creases. For instance, they appear on the neck, armpit, or even the eyelid.

These little growths present no medical threat but they can be annoying and inconvenient. They can catch on clothing or jewelry which can be painful. And one must be careful when shaving around them. But mostly they’re problematic from a cosmetic standpoint. Most people think they look ugly and feel very self-conscious about them; especially if they appear on a visible part of the skin like the face or neck.

What causes skin tags is not 100% clear. It’s believed that sections of the skin, rubbing together over time causes the tags to form. This view stems from the fact that the tags tend to form on areas of the body that fold on each other and produce a certain amount of friction. Other theories point to a possible genetic tendency as skin tags often appear in multiple family members. At this time, there’s no clear-cut cause.

How to get rid of skin tags after they appear is another matter altogether because skin tag removal can be successfully accomplished in a number of ways. The safest and most sure approach is to consult with a dermatologist. They can perform minor surgery and remove a skin tag quite easily. The procedure is quick and can be done during a simple office visit.

As an alternative to surgery, an over-the-counter skin tag remover can be used. There are several different skin tag removers available. Some work by drying up the tag while others work by freezing it. In either case, the skin tag falls off after a number of days.

It’s possible to live with skin tags because they’re generally harmless growths that present no medical threat. If you have any doubt about your own situation, you should see your doctor and get some expert advice. You can also fully discuss the options available to you to remove existing tags.
