Maybe the Best Acne Soap

With all the choices in acne treatment soaps and cleansers, it’s easy to get confused about which products are best for your skin. As a result, acne sufferers spend hundreds of dollars a year trying new products, when the solution is often sitting right under their noses – sometimes literally!

Believe it or not, the best acne treatment soap isn’t even formulated for acne. It’s plain, old fashioned Pears glycerin soap. Available everywhere, costing only a dollar in most places, Pears soap is easily the cheapest acne treatment on the market. It’s also one of the best treatments available.

Pears soap is glycerin based, clear amber colored, and smells vaguely like cinnamon. The newer versions of Pears have a stronger, more “chemical” scent that some people find objectionable, however. Thankfully, the scent doesn’t stay on the skin, since it rinses clean, so it doesn’t clog pores or leave behind any residue that might make acne worse. The ingredients are non-irritating to skin, and it’s gentle enough to be used several times a day. This is in my opinion the best soap for acne sufferers.

It’s also very effective at removing excess oils from the skin. And it doesn’t “strip” the skin and dry it out. Although Pears does contain some artificial ingredients, such as the new fragrance formulation, it is still one of the gentlest, safest soaps on the market for acne prone skin.

Those who wish to avoid artificial ingredients should look for older bars of Pears soap, which can still be found at some discounters and even old flea markets across the country. Look for the “original” label to be sure you’re getting the old formula, and sniff the soap before you use it. If the scent is mild and like cinnamon and spices, it’s an older formula the stronger scented, frankincense type smell is newer. The new formula is still good for treating acne, but it’s not quite as gentle.

Once you’ve found your supply of Pears soap, how do you use it? Use it like you would any other acne soap! Wash your skin at least twice a day with Pears and lukewarm water, rinse with slightly cooler water to reduce inflammation, and follow with a good, basic astringent, such as witch hazel.

For body acne, use a bar of Pears and a bath pouf in the shower, and apply astringent only to the areas affected most by acne – typically the shoulders and upper back. In about three weeks, you will see noticeable improvement in the condition of your skin in six weeks, your skin should be almost completely free of acne. No product can give you “perfect” skin, but Pears soap comes very close.
