Soap for Acne – What to Choose

If you are choosing a soap for acne, you want to make sure that you don’t choose one that’s too harsh. Acne soap is generally stronger than ordinary soap to begin with and using one that’s too much for your skin can leave your skin feeling like rubber. That won’t help your skin recover from acne breakouts.

Also, stronger soaps dry out the skin more. They will tend to remove most or all of the oil from your face. This can cause your skin to increase it’s oil production in response. And that increased oil can make your acne worse.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some soaps, acne soaps, have strong scents. These scents are created by chemicals for the most part and are designed to hide the smell of the acne fighting ingredients in the soap which can be extremely pungent. Sulfur soap for instance is a good example. These chemicals do nothing to treat your acne and in some cases get in the way of that treatment. For that reason, it’s best to go with a simple, basic approach – go with unscented or lightly scented products, they’re better for your skin.

Great Acne Soaps

The pHisoderm Skin Cleansing Bar is a great soap for acne. If you’re allergic to fragrances, this bar is great – it’s unscented. It has no harsh additives and it lathers up easily and rinses cleanly. It’s pH balanced so it fights the bacteria that feed acne This acne soap will leave your skin feeling soft and clean to the touch.

Neutrogena Transparent Facial Bars are some of the most well known acne fighting soaps on the market. They have great cleansing ability and yet are mild enough for sensitive skin. Neutrogena is also strong enough to do a good job on the acne breakouts that occur on shoulders and backs.

Thylox Acne Treatment Soap w/Sulfur is one of the stronger products on the market. It’s not really meant for those with sensitive skin as it has particularly strong drying capabilities. Also, the sulfur smell can be a bit much for some. Still, it can help reduce acne breakouts – especially body acne.

A lot of the skin care products found on the market today come with tiny embedded beads. Some of the best soap for acne has this same feature too. These beads act as an additional cleansing agent by gently exfoliating your skin. This removes the dead skin that naturally accumulates on the surface and thus helps to keep your pores clear and clean so that additional blackheads and whiteheads don’t form.

Using the right soap is just one part of a complete approach to acne treatment. But it’s an important one. Make sure to choose something that isn’t too harsh. Try different brands, always keeping an eye on the ingredients in the soap and the chemistry of your face and skin. Use the soap on a regular schedule morning, noon, and night. If you use acne soap properly, you will start to see a reduction in the amount of acne and acne breakouts. This will take a little time so be patient. With a little perseverance, you can control and ultimately beat your acne.
